Let’s explore the differences between passwords and passwordless authentication:
- Passwords:
- Based on Knowledge: Users provide something they know (e.g., a traditional password or PIN).
- Common Approach: Most authentication systems rely on passwords.
- Challenges: Vulnerable to breaches, forgotten passwords, and reuse across accounts 1.
- Passwordless Authentication:
- Derived from Other Factors: Users authenticate without using a password.
- Methods: Biometric factors (like fingerprints), possessive factors (access codes or links), or other secure means.
- Benefits: Enhanced security, ease of use, and reduced reliance on memorizing passwords 23.
In summary, passwordless authentication replaces passwords with safer methods for verifying identity!
And the options are already built into today's modern operating systems. Just like Face Recognition on your iphone!
