Google is extending its dark web report feature to all users with a Google Account.
This feature, which was previously exclusive to Google One subscribers, is designed to alert users if their personal data has been detected in data breaches. It will be incorporated into the ‘results about you’ section of the Google app in the coming summer.
The update was discovered in a pop-up within the Google One app (as reported by 9To5Google), which clarified that the feature will be discontinued on Google One. However, unlike the company’s VPN service which was completely shut down, the dark web monitoring feature will be repositioned as a tool accessible to all users.
Google’s dark web monitoring will be available to all
In the past, the dark web monitoring tool was a premium feature available only to Google One subscribers. It offered them an in-depth analysis of their personal data that may have been leaked, including details such as names, birth dates, phone numbers, email addresses, and payment card information.
The recent integration of this feature into all Google accounts is aimed at bolstering security by extending the reach of dark web monitoring to a wider user base.
The dark web monitoring will now be incorporated into a unified solution along with the ‘Results about you’ feature. This feature assists users in locating and requesting the removal of their personal contact information from search results
